1. First thing’s first, it can hurt
As per a study published in the British Medical Journal, many women find anal sex to be painful, but go on with it regardless because of persuasion by their partners–as well as its normalisation in pornographic films.
The key here, just like vaginal sex, is to go slow and well to stop if it makes you uncomfortable. Also, don’t indulge in anal sex if your heart is not in it for the sake of your partner. Your body, your rules.
This one’s a no-brainer because in all probability, you know your body well. The important thing though is that unlike the vagina that gets wet when you’re sexually aroused, your anus is not capable of lubricating itself. Hence, if you want to avoid hurting yourself, make sure you use a lubricant for smoother penetration.
3. Yes, it can make you orgasm
If you are living with the misconception that anal sex can’t be as pleasurable as vaginal sex, you’re wrong. A sex survey published in The Journal of Sexual Medicine revealed that women, who indulged in anal sex reported a higher rate of orgasm compared to women, who had vaginal sex.
4. But, before you try anal sex, have vaginal sex first
The survey also revealed that women who orgasmed from vaginal sex were more likely to experiment and try anal sex afterward. Why? Well, because they got more relaxed and comfortable post-climax. Hence, if you want to try anal sex, but are scared too, try this trick.
5. But, never follow anal sex with vaginal sex
Stool present at the further end of the rectum naturally contains bacteria, which can be caught on by the penis and then spread to your vagina. So, vaginal sex is a strict no-no after you’ve tried anal.
6. Anal sex can lead to incontinence
According to a study published in The American Journal of Gastroenterology women who regularly indulged in anal sex reported a high rate of faecal incontinence later in life. Meaning, they faced difficulties in controlling their bowel movements, causing stool (feces) to leak unexpectedly from the rectum.
7. Condoms are a must lest you want STIs
Ladies, you can’t get pregnant through anal sex. That one’s obvious. However, the likelihood of getting sexually transmitted infections (STI’s) through anal sex is higher than any other type of sexual activity, as per UK’s National Health Service website. The reason is fairly simple: The lining of the anus is quite thin and thus more vulnerable to catching infections easily.
Hence, using a condom during anal sex is an absolute must.
8. Bacterial infections aren’t off-limits either
Zero lubrication in the rear increases the chances of tears during penetration, and the resulting wounds can get exposed to bacteria when you pass stool because the stool naturally contains bacteria. The result? Deep-skin infections and some seriously painful abscess, that’ll need you to visit a doc for treatment.
